December 01, 2007. The image was from the Kingdom Hearts Art Book (Xemnas’s weapon) and then vectored to make this layout. It was just something simple with concentration on the navigation as well as bright colors.

Challenge Vectoring the weapon was difficult as was the hover links, I really loved how it turned out though

Process
This layout was actually a bit harder than it looked. I went off a few things. First, it was highly influenced by most recent layout with the Alethiometer, since I thought of doing a different type of object-related layout. I for one, am not a Kingdom Hearts fan, so I wanted to use something much more general. I first took the sketch and ran it through Illustrator’s Live Trace and fixed it up afterwards a bit. Following this, I just colored it in lightly, and then made the background, using the Kingdom Hearts crown tops to do the overlaps. The links were originally going to be in the white background but since I love interactive layouts, I decided to change it last minute. The best part was that I was able to utilize the cool repeat, something I was trying to do since the Jan Ken Pon layout. It really turned out well. I love it, and was really happy that Kari did too. I wanted something new for her that would be different from her last scheme and give her much more room to work with.

After the main thing was done, I added text and choose appropriate colors. I really didn’t like the shade of pink I choose, and so next time I do a layout like this it will go a bit paler. I blended some characters and items in the background that added more body to it.
